27. It’s golf Jim, but not as we know it

Carry the bag.

Walk.

The results are in, curious what the calorie burn confirms.

The bag is about 15kg at a guess so shouldn’t be that surprising I guess as it’s about 8km carrying 15kg.

I say ‘it’s not as we know it’ because the option to put the bag in a hand buggy or even hire a cart is very much there and feels attractive, though the latter is truly a luxury given the cost.

I’ll play better because my legs aren’t getting weary. I deserve it. I’m here to just relax and enjoy this.

They are all true. Or not. It depends what I choose to be true.

What I’ve noticed is that when we make a big decision to do anything in life, suddenly we view the world through an evolved lens which asks “How can I make what I’m doing next contribute to that?

The great thing that I did a few months back was make the decision. So now with golf, the answer to the question “Do I want to make this contribute to my strength and conditioning in some way?” is so easy.

And I love it.

If anything is the definition of what it means to ask what I will do #whileistillcan, this is it.

The yes answer is bolstered because we live with constraint. Life is a constraint and there are only so many hours in the week, so stacking habits in this area not only becomes opportunistic bliss but truly enhances the feeling of satisfaction and literally how I feel about myself in the process.

James Clear is right, this is a great way to enjoy a habit which has a huge benefit for my running. And I feel amazing about that.

26. 5k + 5k + 4.5 k

Park run with Billie kicked things off and I got back under 25 mins for 5k!!!

Excited much.

Quickly into another 5k to get home.

Then later in the day I joined in football training (Australian Rules Football) that my youngest son Billie does with a friend in the off season as part of their GWS Academy program… oooh, the colour pattern on the map is kinda cool. It’s because we did 200’s, then I did a little hills work around the edge and into kicking/running over on the field.

Plenty of joy to be running around with Billie and his mates… and progress.

Strava says:

Park run, happy to crack 25 mins

Felt good to feel stronger and fitter.

The pics say it all really… (there’s a few here because it was really lovely today)

25 min 5k smile!

25. The quarter century – hills!

The quarter century sounds so impressive doesn’t it.

I guess part of that is that it mentions the century which sends the message that this is part of heading towards that.

And as such it’s not really that impressive if you compare to seasoned runners.

But I’m not a seasoned runner, I’m really a beginner, so it’s something I’m choosing to be proud of.

Especially as I’m certainly running down the century as I head towards the marathon.

And today was about hills. I’ve heard good things about them so why not.

Hills!!! 8k worth with 2 x Red Hill Rd climbs

I hate and love hills. They’re a shortcut to stronger but you have to be ok with pain. Proud of pace and getting it done.

PRIVATE NOTES

Soreness in right side of right knee on one descent. Was a bit scary but settled so hopeful all ok. Proud of doing hills.

I note how the slowness up hill hits me. It doesn’t feel good.
